It does improve taste but it really does very little. Water purification systems are better. The highest rated system is an eSpring. Only a distillery can possibly get water cleaner. Ironically even though the basic system does cost more than a basic Britta system does the cost per gallon is less than Britta by year 2. You are even raising your costs by getting 3 different ones. The cost per gallon will be the same after the initial purchase but now you have 3. With the eSpring you will need only one. The under counter system has a separate faucet from the regular water line. You can add a line to your fridge without using another filter cartridge. Then you can then just use a regular every day pitcher if you still want to keep water in one.
