My mom is looking for a good water filtration system, and I thought I would ask. Their water tastes like chlorine, and she wants to remove the taste. Also, she has cancer(Lymphoma), and is trying every natural thing she can to be healthy, and that includes staying away from chlorine. Can you help us?

I think the Brita filters are wonderful. They now have them with different flavors of water. I do not drink sink water at all. All of my water has to be fresh and chlorine free. I don’t blame your mom for being picky about water. It’s always important to know what goes in your body.

I read an article in the papers that Pur water filter was the best, per a study that was made. I have been using Brita for a long time and I don’t find anything bad about it. The taste of water is fresh and free of any odd taste. However, since I read the study on Pur, I am strongly contemplating to switch to it because it is supported by a study.

There are a lot of options when it comes to choosing a water filter. Your Mom will need to consider how much she is willing to spend on a filter system, how much water she uses, and what the water quality supplied to the house is. You already mentioned the chlorine taste, so we can assume that there is a lot of chlorine that needs to be filtered out.
Chlorine is a dangerous chemical in two main ways; it can be ingested in the drinking water, and it can be breathed in when in vapour form. That means that steam from a shower or bath can lead to absorbing chlorine into the bloodstream via the lungs.
Your mom should investigate getting a water filter for the drinking supply, and a water filter for shower head. Both are relatively inexpensive, and there are a lot of good models on the market. If the budget allows, she could also consider getting a whole house water filter, which would filter all the water entering the house. These cost quite a bit more money though, and would require professional installation.
Some good brands are: Aquapure, PUR, and GE SmartWater. Check with your local retailers and ask what products they recommend. Also check how often filters need to be changed (when using activated charcoal) as this can be quite costly.
At the very least, your mom could get a Brita or PUR water filter jug, and filter her tap water through that before drinking it. Very inexpensive and readily available.
